Training of Trainers Program

This four-day training authorizes health and human service agencies to conduct the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute's "Overview of HIV Infection and AIDS" and "Offering HIV Testing in CBOs Serving High Risk Communities" training programs. Upon successful completion of the training, the agency becomes a member of the AIDS Institute's Authorized Training Agency Initiative.

During this training-of-trainers program, training teams will be asked to:

  • Describe the core concepts of adult learning theory;
  • Prepare strategies for handling challenging participants and groups;
  • Practice visual equipment and media methods for training;
  • Deliver an HIV/AIDS-related presentation to demonstrate training skills;
  • Complete a written HIV/AIDS test on key HIV/AIDS content areas;
  • Identify the value of utilizing program evaluations in training; and
  • Identify and research updated resources for future trainings.

Prerequisite: Training team members consists of two (2) trainers from the same agency who must submit an application including: educational background, commitment to the agency, and HIV/AIDS work experience. Applications are available from the REACH CNY. Prior attendance at an AIDS Institute's "Overview of HIV Infection and AIDS" and "Offering HIV Testing in CBOs Serving High Risk Communities" training after June 1, 2001 is required.

Audience: Training teams representing agencies that would like to be authorized to deliver AIDS Institute trainings on basic HIV/AIDS information and HIV counseling and testing.
