| Minimum Qualifications | NYS employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Senior Attorney (G25); OR a NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at SG-23 or above and eligible for transfer under Sections 70.4 or 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. (Candidates requesting consideration for transfer under Section 70.4 or 52.6 of the Civil Service Law must also be a graduate of an accredited law school with an LLB or JD degree, and may also need to meet additional experiential conditions to qualify for consideration) |
| Preferred Qualifications | The preferred candidate should be a highly motivated individual interested in working in an active, investigative/legal team environment. The preferred candidate must be able to work as a member of a team, have demonstrated good decision making skills, oral and written communication skills and should have the ability to handle high volume activities in a dead-line driven environment. Working knowledge of the Penal Law, Criminal Procedures Law, and familiarity with the criminal justice/penal system desirable. |
| Responsibilities | This position is part of a unit established and tasked with the responsibility to comply legislative mandates requiring certain prospective employees of nursing homes and home health agencies to undergo a criminal history record check. This position will report to the Department of Health's (DoH) Counsel's Office but will be located in DoH's Criminal History Record Check unit. The incumbent will evaluate criminal history information to determine suitability for employment and make decisions concerning applicants for employment based upon review of the criminal history information. The incumbent will assess information on certain open charges and convictions, interacting with courts, district attorneys, law enforcement, probation and other resources. The incumbent will also make decisions after evaluating a prospective employee's written explanation as to rehabilitation and good conduct. |
