| Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor's Degree and five years of professional research experience in epidemiology or infection control; or a Master's Degree in a related field and four years of such experience; or a Doctorate in a related field and two years of such experience. |
| Preferred Qualifications | The preferred candidate will have current certification in infection control (CIC);be proficient in conducting routine infection surveillance activities in acute care hospital settings; have experience in conducting research to reduce healthcare-associated infections in select settings and for targeted infections, and experience providing education and training to clinical providers and presenting to professional/scientific audiences. |
| Responsibilities | The Research Scientist 4 will coordinate activities for the HAI Reporting Program in the Department's Metropolitan Area Office -New Rochelle. The HAI Reporting Program has been established within the Division of Epidemiology to manage mandated activities to ensure all New York State hospitals have access to education and training on system requirements, standards for reporting and use of the system. The program is responsible for systems development, training and education of hospital staff, providing technical consultation and assistance, conducting audits to assess completeness and accuracy of reporting, generating reports, investigating complaints, conducting special studies and providing technical assistance on major outbreaks. Duties will include: monitor and evaluate implementation of hospital reporting, assess completeness/accuracy and identify deficiencies; provide training on surveillance methods and feedback on regional and facility-specific findings; assess regional infection prevention programs and identify best practice models, and work with local partners to integrate in other health care facilities; design student internships; establish and maintain partnerships with local/regional APIC and hospital associations and provide ongoing feedback/reports to facilities; provide technical consultation to regional staff on infection control issues and reporting requirements; provide technical consultation and assistance in health care facilities as needed; conduct joint investigations with the Department on infection control-related issues including assist in outbreak investigations; and conduct special studies and independent research, reporting on findings and co-authoring professional papers and reports. |
| Conditions of Employment | Permanent, full-time, non-competitive appointment. Occasional travel, including overnight and travel to areas that may not be served by public transportation is required. |
