SUNY Plattsburgh Students Must Have Mumps Vaccine to Return to School on Monday, Commissioner Orders
ALBANY, N.Y. (March 19, 2010) – In response to the outbreak of mumps among students at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Plattsburgh, New York State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines, M.D., has issued an order that all students who are not vaccinated against mumps and have not had mumps disease be excluded from attending school at SUNY Plattsburgh for the duration of the outbreak.
Governor Paterson Announces $2.5 Million Grant to Create Statewide Coalition and Center for Obesity Prevention, Healthy Eating and Active Living
Governor David A. Paterson announced today that the New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM) has been selected to establish a statewide coalition for obesity prevention; conduct policy research; and provide training and technical assistance to the coalition and staff, contractors and partners of the New York State Department of Health around obesity prevention, healthy eating and active living.

During a visit to Monroe County today State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines, M.D., said passage of a penny-per-ounce tax on sugary beverages is needed now to help reduce high obesity rates and protect critical health care jobs.
