Appendix X-Unscheduled/Scheduled Admission Conversion Algorithm

Summary

  1. If the Type of Admission is 1 (Emergency) or 2 (Urgent), then the Unscheduled/Scheduled Admission should be coded as a 1 (Unscheduled).

  2. If the Type of Admission is 3 (Elective), then the Unscheduled/Scheduled Admission should be coded as a 2 (Scheduled).

  3. If the Type of Admission is 4 (Newborn) or 9 (Unknown), then the above table should be used to interrogate the Source of Admission field to determine the appropriate coding value for the Unscheduled/Scheduled Admission.
